Michael J. Fox Has Breaking News

Beloved actor Michael J. Fox, renowned for his iconic role in “Back To The Future,” is grappling with a profound loss. His steadfast companion, Gus, a twelve-year-old Great Dane-Labrador mix, has departed, leaving Fox to navigate life without his loyal friend. In a poignant message to his one million social media followers, Fox shared a touching image of Gus, expressing, “Gus — great dog and loyal friend, we’ll miss you.”

Referencing pages 220-222 of his 2020 memoir, “No Time Like The Future: an Optimist Considers Mortality,” Fox described Gus as his “wonder dog,” a source of joy throughout their twelve-year journey. Gus played a pivotal role in Fox’s life, notably during his public battle with Parkinson’s disease spanning over two decades. In the memoir, Fox underscores Gus’s significance, acknowledging the dog’s role in alleviating feelings of isolation during health struggles.

Reflecting on their relationship, Fox emphasized, “I didn’t rescue Gus. You can argue that he rescued me, but he’d be too modest to make that claim.” The actor highlighted Gus’s constant affection as a source of comfort, countering the isolation that often accompanies chronic illness. According to Fox, the presence of a dog serves as a powerful force multiplier, opening up new dimensions of connection and companionship.

Gus also played a vital role in Fox’s physical recovery after spinal cord surgery in 2018. Amidst Fox’s reliance on a wheelchair, Gus provided unwavering support, circling the wheelchair with a reassuring “woof woof” and sitting in front of Fox. The actor fondly recalled the moment, stating, “And he looked at me, and I said, ‘It’s going to be okay.”

Losing a cherished pet is never facile, and Fox is no exception. Let’s take a moment to extend our sympathies to him and acknowledge the extraordinary bond shared between Fox and Gus. While the loss creates a significant void, the memories and love forged with Gus will endure eternally in Fox’s heart.
