Stephen Nedoroscik: Pommel Horse Hero Who Changed Olympic History

Stephen Nedoroscik Ends US Men’s Gymnastics 16-Year Medal Drought

Stephen Nedoroscik, a 25-year-old gymnast from Massachusetts, made history at the Paris Olympics by securing a bronze medal for the US men’s gymnastics team, their first in 16 years. His viral online presence earned him the nickname “Pommel Horse Guy.”

Born in 1998, Nedoroscik began gymnastics at age four, driven by his natural athleticism. “I had a crazy good grip strength,” he said. He graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and now balances his athletic career with coaching. In 2021, he became the first American to win gold on the pommel horse at the Global Championship in Japan, despite unknowingly competing with a broken hand. “What if I told you I won Worlds with a FRACTURED HAND?” he wrote on X. This injury required a ten-week recovery.

Nedoroscik’s career has been marked by significant challenges, including bone marrow edema and vocal cord dysfunction. Despite these setbacks, he achieved his dream of competing in the 2024 Olympics, making a lasting impact on American gymnastics.
