In North London, a 12-year-old girl recently gave birth to a 7-pound baby girl, making her and her 13-year-old boyfriend Britain’s youngest parents. The young mother reportedly became pregnant at age 11 after beginning a relationship with the boy, who lives nearby. Their combined age sets a record for the youngest parents in British history.

According to The Sun, both families are supportive despite the challenges of such young parenthood. A source close to the family shared, “Both sets of grandparents are incredibly supportive… The young couple intends to raise their daughter together and are very committed to each other.” The new mother, who lives with her mother—a 27-year-old who is now one of the UK’s youngest grandmothers—plans to return to school in September.
