NEW: Diddy’s Jaw-Dropping Verdict Is Released

A New York jury reached a divided verdict in the case involving Sean “Diddy” Combs, the renowned rapper and hip hop producer who has been at the forefront of a federal trial for several weeks, facing accusations of racketeering, prostitution, and various other serious offenses.

On Wednesday, the jurors found the iconic music producer guilty of lesser charges related to the transportation of former girlfriends for prostitution, while acquitting him of the more severe allegations of racketeering and sex trafficking. Had he been convicted on all counts, Combs could have faced a potential life sentence.

This verdict is likely to be perceived as a triumph for Combs, 55, who, through his legal representatives, asserted throughout the trial that his relationship with former girlfriend Cassie Ventura was problematic yet consensual. He acknowledged a history of violence but refrained from admitting guilt prior to the trial.

Supporters gathered outside the courtroom, chanting “Free Puff! Free Puff! Free Puff!” as he made his way past them and entered his family’s waiting van.

NBC’s Chloe Melas, speaking to reporters outside the courtroom, elaborated on why this significant ruling serves as a crucial lifeline for Combs.

“Prosecutors portrayed Combs as someone who was abusive towards women, which they conceded, but also accused him of operating a criminal enterprise and sex trafficking two of his former girlfriends, Cassie Ventura and another individual who testified under a pseudonym, ‘Jane.’ This represents a substantial setback for the prosecution, which presented 34 witnesses,” Melas stated.

She recounted her experience inside the courtroom, observing how the government’s prosecutors struggled to persuade the jurors, who rendered their decision with impassive expressions.

“It was evident that several jurors were not convinced by the prosecution’s arguments. I noticed some rolling their eyes, while others appeared to doze off. Clearly, many were not persuaded by the prosecution’s closing statements,” she remarked.

Combs was observed collapsing to his knees in the courtroom shortly after the verdict was announced, expressing a prayer of gratitude and resting his head on the table. Defense attorneys embraced each other while relatives celebrated from the gallery.

The decision now rests with a judge to determine if Combs will remain free until his sentencing. He has been detained without bail both prior to and throughout the trial.
