Fetterman Fires Back at AOC as Social Media Spat Continues

Interestingly, for those who take pleasure in witnessing the self-destruction of the woke left as their internal conflicts intensify, the social media exchange between Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) regarding Israel and Hamas persists. Sen. Fetterman responded after AOC accused him of making a “bleak dunk attempt” in response to his criticism of her views on the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The disagreement originated from a post by AOC concerning the Biden-Harris Administration’s position on the war in Gaza, where she condemned Israel’s actions as “unrestrained” and urged the American government to “stop enabling” the war to assist the Palestinian civilians suffering due to the conflict.

In her assertive post, she stated, “The horrors unfolding in northern Gaza are the result of a completely unrestrained Netanyahu government, fully armed by the Biden administration while food aid is blocked and patients are bombed in hospitals. This is a genocide of Palestinians. The US must stop enabling it. Arms embargo now.”

The Hill, a news outlet focused on Washington, DC, published an article about her tweet, titled, “Ocasio-Cortez criticizes Biden administration over ‘unrestrained’ Israel government.” Sen. Fetterman utilized a screenshot of that article to respond to AOC, tweeting, “The tragedy in Gaza is 100% on Hamas. Stop using civilians and hospitals as shields, surrender, and release all remaining hostages—and this ends.”

Rep. AOC then reacted strongly, retorting, “I dunno man. I care about little kids dying. I care about human rights. I care that billions of US tax dollars’ worth of weapons are carrying out unspeakable atrocities. I care enough for us to do better. Hope this bleak dunk attempt gets you whatever it is you’re going for.”

She subsequently, in a somewhat indirect manner, criticized viewpoints akin to those of Sen. Fetterman by retweeting a message from “All in With Chris Hayes” which stated, “WATCH: @chrislhayes honors Shaban Al Dalu, a Palestinian teenager who tragically burned to death following an Israeli strike. ‘That young man should have been celebrating his 20th birthday today. Instead, the world bore witness to his violent demise in a video showcasing the unending atrocities in Gaza—atrocities that, whether we approve or not, our government and our weaponry are perpetuating day after day until a change occurs.’”

The following day, Sen. Fetterman appeared to respond in a similar indirect fashion to AOC, or at least to those who share her views, by commending the Israelis for their “elimination” of a terrorist leader. He remarked, “I wish to commend Israel and celebrate the removal of Yahya Sinwar—a crucial step towards any lasting peace. The eradication of the architect behind the 10/7 massacre epitomizes justice served. My support and my voice for Israel will remain steadfast.”

In what seemed to be another indirect response, AOC retweeted a post from Mehdi Hasan that lauded Kamala for her statements regarding the conflict, stating, “Good rhetoric (particularly concerning Palestinian and Lebanese ‘suffering’ and the resolution of the conflict), and significantly better rhetoric than that of Biden and Trump, yet rhetoric alone is insufficient. Action is required. A strategy. The application of our leverage. Not incessant bombings. The US—and the Vice President—are not mere bystanders; they are active participants.”
