A public feud has escalated between former President Donald Trump and musician Bruce Springsteen. The conflict began when Springsteen, during a European tour, criticized the U.S. leadership as “corrupt, incompetent and treasonous.”
Trump responded angrily on social media, attacking Springsteen as a “dried out prune of a rocker.” He warned the singer to keep quiet and suggested there would be consequences upon his return to the United States.
The dispute has drawn other artists into the fray, including U2’s Bono. While appearing on *Jimmy Kimmel Live*, Bono declared his allegiance, stating, “There’s only one boss in America,” in a clear show of support for Springsteen.
Bono also addressed a separate, unsolicited attack from Trump. The former president had insinuated on social media that Bono and other artists were paid to perform for Democrat Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 election.
The singer firmly denied these claims, stating, “U2 and I [were] never paid – or played – a show to support any candidate from any party.” He clarified that such an event has never occurred.
Bono also criticized Trump’s Truth Social platform, remarking that it “seems to be pretty antisocial and it’s not very true a lot of the time.” This comment highlights the deepening animosity between the artist and the former president.
This tension is not new; before the 2016 election, Bono had already expressed concern about America’s future under Trump. He questioned what it would mean for the world and stated that good people would not “stand silently while you run off with the American dream.”
