An 8-month-old Baby From Colombia Weighed As Much As 44 lbs: What Does The Boy Look Like Now?

Santiago Mendez gained widespread attention at just 8 months old due to his excessive weight gain.

Born in 2013 in Colombia, Santiago, the fifth child in a large family, faced a concerning situation as he rapidly reached 20 kilograms by the age of one.

His mother, Eunice, inadvertently contributed to this by occasionally overfeeding him. The family’s distress led them to seek medical advice, drawing media attention to Santiago’s condition.

News outlets globally covered his story, closely monitoring his journey to shed excess weight. Isabella, a peer weighing 19.5 kilograms, also joined the efforts to achieve a healthier lifestyle.

In 2015, financial constraints jeopardized Santiago’s treatment, but supportive sponsors stepped in, enabling the continuation of his transformation. At 7 years old, Santiago now resembles his peers in terms of size and health.
