Variety was informed by his longtime manager, Patrick McMinn, that he passed away after a fight with pancreatic cancer. In the company of his loved ones, he passed away in his Los Angeles home. Because of his portrayal of private investigator John Shaft, Roundtree has been hailed as the first Black action hero, and his influence on the film industry is immense. Over the years, he has also developed a varied career, landing important parts in films including “Earthquake,” “Roots,” and “Generations.” The passing of a celebrity has affected fans and fellow actors, and many have taken to social media to give their unique respects.
