Carol Delaney never imagined that one evening could change everything she believed about her family. After thirty-one years of marriage, she trusted her husband, Mark, and the life they had built together. They shared a comfortable home, family traditions, and a business that had once belonged to Carol’s late father, Joe Brennan.

Joe had started Brennan Lumber & Supply with a borrowed truck and a small amount of savings. Over the years, he grew it into a respected local company. Before his death, he placed the business and several family assets into a trust designed to protect Carol and her son, Daniel. Carol knew her father had made arrangements for the future, but she had never fully understood the details. Mark managed the company and assured her that the paperwork was routine.

Everything began to feel different a few months after Daniel married Jenna. Mark started working late, keeping his phone close, and offering explanations that no longer seemed convincing. Carol tried to dismiss her concerns. She did not want to suspect the man she had loved for decades, and she hoped the changes were simply the result of a demanding schedule.

One Thursday evening, a message appeared on the family tablet while Carol was preparing dinner.
