They fell in love at a time when their relationship challenged society’s expectations – and they chose each other anyway. ❤️
Actors Tyne Daly and Georg Stanford Brown met while studying acting in New York, and they reportedly dated for just five months before getting married on June 1, 1966. Their interracial marriage came just one year before the Supreme Court struck down laws banning interracial marriage nationwide.
The couple faced prejudice, but they went on to build a family and welcome three daughters together. They even appeared together on screen in The Rookies, sharing an interracial kiss at a time when television networks were still sensitive about showing such relationships.
Tyne later explained her perspective in an interview with The Washington Post, saying she was married to “another member of the human race” and that she had “gave up categories a long time ago.”
Their marriage ended in 1990, after 24 years together, but their story remains a reminder of how far society has come – and how love can challenge the barriers people try to put in its way. ❤️
